Trust me, this is a headache you don’t want. I’ve made videos in the past about the importance of owning your own Google Ads account. So, I thought I’d share this article from John Conlan, who owns an agency called Ideas Money Art.
So, in the article, he shares the top three excuses that unethical agencies use to hold your Google Ads account hostage and not give you access to it.
Number one excuse: how they set up a Google Ads account is their proprietary information. Verdict: BS. The biggest agencies and people in the Google Ads world talk all the time. And as John says in the article, there is no secret sauce here.
Number two excuse: they set it up from scratch, so it’s theirs because, well, they set it up and everything. Verdict: incompetence. As John said, and I agree 100% with him, if you needed to charge setup and you didn’t, that stupidity is on you as the agency, not the client.
And finally, excuse number three: they can’t disconnect your Google Ads account from their Google Ads Manager account. Complete BS.
Now, I’ve never heard of someone trying out this excuse because it’s so ridiculous. As John says, this is a total lie. If anyone says that to you, run for the hills.
But unfortunately, if you’re hearing these excuses, it’s probably already too late. So, make sure upfront, before you grant access or before you have an agency set up your Google Ads account, that the agency you are working with are not scumbags and you can take your Google Ads account with you if you ever change agencies.
