ChatGPT kicked Google’s ass in this local search experiment. So, I decided to do a little experiment and put ChatGPT up against Google for finding a local plumber.
Let’s say I live in Leander, Texas, just outside of Austin. So, I did a Google search for best plumber Leander, Texas, and I get a typical Google search result here.
But what I don’t get is any sense that Google has picked out the best plumber for me. Maybe the map pack, but not really.
Now, let’s take a look at ChatGPT with the identical search. ChatGPT knows I’m asking a question, and it gives me a direct answer. Here are several highly rated options to consider.
Then I get a manageable list of four plumbers, their location on a map, and a snippet from ChatGPT on why they might be the best for me. I even get advice at the end on how to choose the best plumber.
From the information I’ve gathered, it’s clear to me that ChatGPT kicked Google’s ass in this local search experiment, and that should be a wake-up call for your marketing team.
