Google Breakup? ⚖️ What the Antitrust News Means for Your Business

Full Video Transcript

The US Department of Justice just submitted a legal filing proposing four ways that Google should be broken up after a previous court found them in violation of antitrust laws.

So, here are those four ways. Number one, Google needs to sell or spin off its Chrome browser.

Number two, Google will be limited from making deals to be the default search engine.

Number three, stopping Google from favoring its own products over competitors in search results.

And number four, Google needs to be more transparent with its advertising and data practices.

So, what does that mean for you, the local business owner? Well, you’ve probably built most of your marketing around Google. And if Google gets broken up into pieces, that marketing may fall off or, worst-case scenario, cease to work.

So, what should you do? I wouldn’t be doing anything right now, but I would be talking with your marketing team to confirm they are keeping up with this and contemplating future moves.

Because if they’re not, then they’re not the right marketers to navigate you through the fallout of a Google breakup.
