A while back, I did a video with the hyperbolic title “SEO Is Dead.” And in that video, I mentioned that I disagreed with the chief scientist at MA, who said people have an expectation that Google will take them to a website, or else they won’t use Google.
I completely disagree. I think people just want information, whether it’s from a website, a Google Business Profile, or an ad. They don’t care.
And the folks over at Near Media really summed it up, how Google is providing information to searchers. Google once was the gateway to the internet, but now they’re the gateway to Google as a product.
Take a look at this snapshot of a “plumber near me” search. Everything in that screenshot is a Google product.
You got LSA ads and pay-per-click ads, then the map pack with Google Business Profiles.
My point is that as long as Google is the predominant search engine, you had better prioritize optimizing your visibility in their products.
